Nordical
Diving Services (NDS) began in 1989 after the demise of the
National Safety Council of Australia (NSCA)
The Company director, Pete
Norder who trained and operated within the NSCA as a Commercial
diver/Recompression chamber operator, saw the need for an
inland diving operation to service the local water industries.
This was achieved in a part time capacity as the directors
pursued other careers.
Early tasks completed by NDS
were:
- The general inspection salvage
and minor constructions for local water authorities.
- Providing consultancy and
training services to the Sea survival and Underwater helicopter
escape training facility at West Sale.
Potable Water Technologies
In 1996 NDS recognised the potential to perform underwater
tasks in the potable water environment and actively pursued
equipment and technologies to clean potable water storages.
With the support of Gippsland
Water our first storage was cleaned at Churchill in August
1996. Over a period of time, NDS gradually gained client confidence
and a slice of the market share by continuing to resource
technologies and delivering service and solutions to an initially
nervous market.
One particular task was to
clean a live storage that was 8000sq/m and up to 1.5 metres
of sediment. This task was completed on time and budget. All
this on a part time basis.
In 2001 NDS was invited by
AQUALIFT to act as a sub-contractor on their behalf in South
East Australia.
NDS became a full time operation
and equipment and procedures were updated accordingly.
The partnership with Aqualift
was dissolved in February 2003 and Nordical Diving is now
operating independently under its own identity. Our specifically
training potable water team and dedicated unit are utilised
in four states of Australia.
